William Allison MacDougall, 86, surrounded by family and in the comfort of home, joined His Savior on October 14, 2015. He returned to the embrace of his beloved wife, Mary, who preceded him to their Creator. His devotion to family and care and concern for their welfare was most keenly felt by his daughters Susan M. Coleman, Margaret L., Allison M. Hamrin, and his sons, Robert M. and W. James. His life, from January 27, 1929, was filled with shortbread, fresh vegetables and love by his parents, William L. and Janet M. MacDougall, and sibling, Ian E. Further flavor was added by those brought to his family through marriage, Neal Coleman (Neal Edgar/Rachel: Claire & Will, Peter, Mary, Gabriel, Elizabeth), Cheryl Richards (Samantha, Mark), Jennifer Gath (Ian/Rachel, Emma), David Hamrin (Daniel, Katie), and Paula L. Merline and by the friends and family too numerous to be named here. Bill, a devoted father and grandfather (Bapa), worked tirelessly for his family to be successful in life. A serious student and exceptional and dedicated athlete, he graduated with a BA from Wabash College and turned down the NBA to join the Army. He served in Germany as a clerk and returned to the US, completed his MBA and met his future wife, Mary. Together, they built a business, William A MacDougall & Assoc, and a family through homes from Ohio, New York, and Indiana to the lakeside Michigan home they both loved so much. Bill also loved being on the road for business, hitting the golf range after a long day of work, riding his yazoo mower in the field, playing (and beating) his children at euchre and attending bible study and church. His solid and caring presence will be missed in the same way he always expressed his love to Mary, a blessed refrain through their earthly 58 years together, “More than yesterday, less than tomorrow.” A celebration of his life can be joined at Sheridan Congregational Church on Saturday, November 7, at 11:00am. In leiu of flowers, please consider donations to Sheridan Congregational Church or the IU Hospice. The family would like to thank IU Hospice for their incredible support, the infusion room nurses who took excellent care of Bill and to whom he looked forward to seeing weekly, and Bill's devoted caregivers Wendi, Tina, and Donna, for their unfailing love and compassion through his final six months. You girls are amazing; thanks for being part of the MacDougall family!
