Virginia R. Holstad age 93, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the Laurels of Kent in Lowell. She was born August 16, 1926 in Newaygo, Michigan. She grew up on a farm along the Muskegon River with her parents Gladys and Frank Palmer and her brother Ralph Palmer, moved to Fremont to attend High School, moved to Greenville in 1949 and married her husband Don on August 27, 1954. She worked at Wolverine for 17 years before retiring to travel and work with her husband Don. Their work took them all over the United States including Hawaii. She loved to bowl and play golf and was a member of the Women’s Bowling Association for over 50 years. She was a member of the Sheridan VFW Post #5065, life member of the American Legion Post #101 Auxiliary, member of the Greenville Area Senior Center, Baldwin Lake Association for 56 years where she had lived, raised 4 daughters and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Virginia is survived by her daughters and sons in law Becky Asper of Traverse City, Cheryl (Bob) Higgins of Greenville, and Jenny (Ike) VanHorn of Stanton; 11 grandchildren Scott (Liezel Jewell, Teague Higgins, Todd (Kory) Higgins, Jennifer (Mark) Ullery, Terry (Candace) Hedger, Jr., Vince Hedger, Julia Myers, Tami Piatt, Tim VanHorn, Laurie (Monty) Clark and Suzanne (Scott Miller) VanHorn Ray; 21 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many bowling friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Gladys & Frank Palmer, husband Don in 2006, daughter Judy Jewell in 1990, brother Ralph Palmer, sister Goldie Godden and sister in law Marion and Bud Forton. MEMORIAL SERVICES ARE NOW POSTPONED TILL THIS SPRING AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED LATER by the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville. Members of the family will meet with friends and relatives from 11 AM till the service. Memorial contributions in Virginia’s name can be made to the Clay Street Center, an adult day care center in Greenville. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
