Susan J. Auton age 82, of Gowen passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Corewell Hospital in Greenville She was born December 17, 1941 in Winn, Michigan, the daughter, Ray L. & Erma V. (Wineburth) Brown. Sue was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend. Sue had a sharp wit and a sense of sarcasm that always kept everyone on their toes. Her quick comebacks and playful teasing brought laughter to every person who she connected with. She had a unique ability with her clever remarks, and her sense of humor were often the highlight of any conversation. Sue was incredibly savvy and acquired many skills from growing up in the Great Depression. Sue knew how to survive by making the most out of every resource, whether it was harvesting from her and Jim's bountiful vegetable garden to feed her family, or repurpose household items to avoid waste. Her practical skills and resourcefulness were unmatched, and she passed many of these valuable lessons to her children, grandchild and great grandchild. She spent her life nurturing her family. Breakfast, lunch and supper were always hot and ready on the table. She was an excellent cook, baker and homemaker. Sue was devoted to her family. Her dedication to her family's well-being was unwavering. She loved talking and reminiscing over relatives and her familial history. She was committed to ensuring her home was a place of warmth and safety. She loved sharing stories from her past and serving a delicious homemade treat. Sue was especially fond of cookies, and her homemade cakes were nothing short of legendary. Her legacy lives on through the unforgettable and lasting impact on everyone who knew her. She is deeply loved and sorely missed. She is survived by her granddaughter Candace Baecher of Indiana; great grandson Charles Perkins and her sister Vera Cyphert of Winn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James A. Auton on July 5, 2024, daughter Cynthia Ann Baecher in 2012, sisters Betty Walburn and Una Stephen, sister in law Linda Parker. Graveside Funeral Services will be 11 AM Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Spencer Mills Cemetery.
