Shirley May Bullis

Shirley May Bullis age 83, of Gowen passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 at her home.  She was born March 15, 1940 to Nolan & Frances Barks of Jones, Michigan.  After graduating from Marcellus High School, Shirley moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where she attended Davenport Business College and worked for Bixby Office Supply as a bookkeeper.  She worked for several other companies as a bookkeeper during her working years and retired from Devries Tire Company in Greenville, Michigan.  After she married Benjamin in the late 1960’s, they left the Grand Rapids area and moved to Maston Lake.  Her final home was nestled in the woods near Gowen, Michigan.  After her retirement, Shirley volunteered with several organizations including a local food bank.  She was also active with her church.  Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Bullis, as well as her sisters Patricia Timm and Carole Barks and her brother Robert Barks, nephews Gary Barks and David Timm.  She is survived by her daughter Sherrill Barks; sister Kathryn Pursel; brother Richard Barks and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.  In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.  Shirley will be interred next to her husband Benjamin in Ashland Cemetery, Grant, Michigan.  The burial will take place Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11 AM.
