Sadie C. Walker

Sadie C. Walker age 101 of Greenville, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Corewell Health, in Greenville. She was born January 23, 1923 in Lakeview, the daughter of Cornelius & Effie M. (Laughlin) Richards. Sadie attended Pleasant Hill School, a one room schoolhouse near Lakeview, graduated from Lakeview High School in 1941. Right out of school she went to work for Belden Basket Factory making signal flares, then to Gibson’s making flaps for planes. In 1944 she went to La Parent Academy of Beauty in Grand Rapids where she graduated as a licensed cosmetologist and worked for Agatha “Ace” Rasmussen in Lakeview. She loved to go to dances and roller rinks, where she met Charles and they were married in 1947. Eventually she and Charles moved to Greenville, where Charles’s family lived and ran the Eureka Lumber Company. After buying a house in Greenville she opened up Sadie’s Beauty Shop. She was a cosmetologist for 65 years and loved to play BINGO. Her husband Charles passed away in 2010. Sadie is survived by her son and daughter in law Charles (Catherine) Walker of Jackson; four grandchildren Matthew (Sarah) Walker of West Bloomfield, Jenni (Aaron) Chase of Portage, Lindsey Walker of Traverse City and Alex Walker of Birmingham and her two great grandchildren Sawyer and Sullivan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, son William, grandson Adam and by her siblings Joyce, Betty, Fanny, Earl, Jack, Abe, Lloyd, Walt, Floyd, Bob and Tom. Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at St. Charles Catholic Church, celebrated by Fr. Jim Wyse. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM till the Mass at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in Sadie’s name to St. Charles Catholic Church.
