Rick "Ricky" Arthur Harkness

Rick “Ricky” Arthur Harkness, age 73, of McBride passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Alma. He was born November 24, 1948, in Edmore, the son of Richard Harkness and Dorothy Hosner. Ricky was the owner and operator of RA Harkness Inc. in McBride. An Army Veteran, he served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1970 in the motorpool. Ricky was a life member of the VFW. He was one of the founding members of AMVets Post 588 in Edmore. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Day Township for 29 years. Ricky enjoyed truck/tractor pulls, serving on the Honor Color Guard for the AMVets, stock car racing, and car shows. He also enjoyed spending time at his property up north. Ricky is survived by his life partner, Joyce Sanders of Vestaburg; his children, daughter, K.C. Harkness and son, B.J. (Danielle) Harkness; Joyce’s children, Stacy and Torrey Sanders; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Kathy (Larry) LeFever, Camille (Robert) Ludwig, and LuAnne (Jim) Plotts. Many nieces and nephews survive Ricky as well. Ricky was proceeded in death by his parents, Richard Harkness and Dorothy Hosner; sisters, Sharon Yakes and Paulette Akers; brother, Eric Hammerberg. Memorial services will be held at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Edmore on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at 11 A.M with Pastor Stephen Brigham officiating. The family will receive friends at 10 A.M. for a visitation. A luncheon will follow the service at the Edmore VFW. In the spring a private burial will take place. Contributions in Ricky’s memory may be made to the AMVets Post 588 of Edmore. Cremation services were provided by Marshall Funeral Home in Greenville.
