Phyllis Jean Mayne

Phyllis Jean Mayne aged 97 of Charlotte NC, formerly of Greenville, MI, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Sunday December 19th 2021. Phyllis was born March 25th 1924 in Lansing MI to Isabel (George) & Howard Shiffler. Phyllis married Robert Fredrick Mayne in Huntington, Indiana 2 days after her 19th birthday. She was a remarkable home maker in every sense of the word. An incredible cook, able to make something delectable out of ‘whatever’ Robert would drag home! She was loving, kind and caring to one and all. A godly woman that was devoted to her family and many friends. In 1979 they moved to the Greenville area and resided there for 33 years. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2012 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Phyllis is survived by her son James Mayne, daughter Mary Dunigan and son Cyril & (Victoria) Mayne. Grandchildren Casey, Tyler, Sarah, Myla, CJ, & great grandchildren Sianna, Cyril, Amarah, Epiphanie, Penelope, Charlotte-Anne, Claire, Lucas & Magnolia. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Robert, son in law, Terry Dunigan, daughter in law, Laura Mayne (Durant) & grandson, Jesse Mayne. A graveside service will be 2 PM Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Findley Cemetery, Ada Township, Kent County.

“The purpose of life is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Ralph Waldo Emerson. Phyllis certainly lived well. She poured out her life in the care and nurturing of so many.

“The highest tribute to the dead is not grief but gratitude.” Thornton Wilder

“For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord.” Romans 14:8

Maynes; I am so sorry for your loss. 97 years..what a great life. We were fortunate to have Bob and Phyllis as neighbors on Cass Street, as wonderful patients, and in our retirement as breakfast friends with Shirley Johnson and her "monkey bread". Rest In Peace Phyllis.
