Melvin L. "Mel" Taylor age 86, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home. He was born April 3, 1928. Mel is survived by his wife Mary; sons Thad & (Theresa) Taylor of Cedar Springs, Todd & (Stacey) Taylor of Greenville; daughter Kire & (Shane) Wierda of Greenville; Mary's children Timothy & (Kathy) Hendricks of Ada, Thomas & (Cathy) Hendricks, Sharry & (Bill) Johnson, John & (Joan) Hendricks and David & (Shelly) Hendricks all of Greenville and Suzanne & (Tim) Wernet of Rockford; grandchildren Ryan & (Gwen), Mitch & (Erica), Kody & (Marie) and Kylee Taylor, Jenna & (Trevor) Wood, Jared, Audrey, Sarah and Anna Wierda, Adam Petersen and Marne & (Kurt) Christie; Mary's grandchildren Mark & (Lisa), Michael & (Casey), Clinton, Chad, Chris, Aaron, Sarah, Brian & (Jennifer), Jack, Jeff and Kristyn Hendricks, Jennifer Johnson, Mary Elizabeth & (Dan) Lelko, Shelly & (Kody) Severts and Bob and Dan Wernet; many great grandchildren. He is precedced in death by his daughter and son in law Jody & Rick Petersen, sisters Phyllis Medaugh and Virginia Raudenbush and his brothers Willis & Mervin Taylor. He was an active member of the Turk Lake United Methodist Church, served during the end of World War II in the US Army, a Purdue graduate, founder of Graphite Engineering & Sales, retired umpire for baseball and softball, was a former city councilman and county board chair, officiated high school and middle school basketball and also lived in Westview Ridge in Haines City, Florida. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #101, Greenville at the funeral home. Burial will take place later.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Mel's name to the Turk Lake United Methodist Church or Hospice of West Michigan.
