Marcia Jane Rood

September 4, 1938 — July 19, 2023

Marcia Jane (Regan) Rood age 84, formerly of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Holland Home in Grand Rapids. She was born September 4, 1938 in Farmington, Michigan, the daughter of James E. & Minnie A. (Brunette) Regan. She grew up in Farmington attending Our Lady of Sorrows Elementary School, Mercy High School and Mercy College of Detroit. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 1960 and started her teaching career in the Detroit area. She met the love of her life, Terry Rood, while visiting a friend in Parnell, Michigan. She attended a church dance where Terry was the brave one who took the dare to dance with the girl from Detroit. They were married on June 24, 1961 and started a family. After living in Farmington while Terry finished his degree, they moved to Greenville and called it home. They continued to dance through the joys and challenges of raising five children with love and faith providing a firm foundation. Marcia lived her strong faith by example, in both word and action. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and was a beloved third grade teacher at St. Charles School for 26 years She touched the lives of hundreds of children and families before retiring in 2000. Her hobbies included tracing her genealogy, reading, solving Sudoku puzzles, and eating ice cream with Terry. She and Terry loved spending summer days at the family cottage in Pentwater, Michigan, always making cottage improvements, and quite a few winter days in a rental condo in Fort Morgan, Alabama, soaking up the sun. Other travels took them to the Upper Peninsula, Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, Utah and Ireland. These adventures might have included digging for more family history or spending an hour or two with a cup of nickels at a casino. Marcia loved the holidays, bringing her large extended family to the cottage for the Fourth of July and to her home for Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. Being with her family brought her the greatest joy. Her bright smile, easy laugh and cute dimple will be missed by all who knew and loved her. We know she is dancing with Terry once again in the glory of heaven. Marcia is survived by her children Michael (Peggy) Rood of Kent City, Patrick (Deanna) Rood of Walker, Mary (Brett) Scheidel of Middleville, Timothy (Shelley) Rood of Ann Arbor and Brian (Carol) Rood of Farmington Hills; 17 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters in law Joyce Regan of Dearborn, Norma J.
