Leon E. Saunders age 84, of Gowen, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020 at his home under the care of Faith Hospice. He was born November 30, 1935 in Grand Rapids, the son of Leon F. & Marjorie M. (Barnes) Saunders. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, former member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Harvard, was a shade tree mechanic working on cars, would help his friends build just about anything, loved hunting and fishing, was a retired truck driver for Holland Motor Express and served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. Leon is survived by his wife Louise; daughter Karen (David) Kayser of Lowell; son Douglas (Valarie) Saunders of Howard City; four grandsons Patrick and Jeremy Kayser, Justin Bowhuis and Connor Saunders; two great granddaughters Riley and McKenna Kayser two great grandsons Stark and Leon Joseph Kayser; siblings Sherry, Cathy, Robert and Mike and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Linda. A Memorial Mass will be 11 AM Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home or the church due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the extended Stay-At-Home Executive Order. The church is limited to 25% occupancy which has a limit of 90 people and the only entry will be from the upper level parking lot. Masks will be required. Burial will be in St. Margaret's Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Leon's name can be made to Faith Hospice.
