Jason Randall “Jay” Austin age 35 of Hastings, passed away, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born the son of Roger W. Sr. and Denise A. (Van Velsen) Austin. Jason “Smiley” was employed at the Sand Bar & Grill in Gun Lake for over 5 years and loved his many co-workers and Bruce & Kim Campbell. He was a 2001 graduate of Thornapple Kellogg High School. Jason is survived by his wife Melissa; daughters Onna and Jade Austin; step children Hailey Disman and Tyler Easey; mother and step father Denise (John) Baker of Middleville; In laws Rodney & Karen Wallace; brothers Roger (Vickie Green) Austin, Jr. of Elizabeth Town Kentucky and Steven (Trish Lapham) Austin of Middleville; step sisters Stephanie (Joel) Kozlowicz of Grand Rapids and Sarah (Michael) Uribe of Chicago; grandparents Larry (Shirley) Baker of Grand Rapids; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Roger W. Austin, Sr., and his grandparents Robert & Leona Austin and Donald & Doris Van Velsen. Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Thursday, June 7, 2018 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Wayland, celebrated by Fr. Alphonse. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home in Wayland and 1 hour prior to the Funeral Mass at church on Thursday. Burial will be in Coman Cemetery in Middleville. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that if making a memorial contribution to please consider the needs of the family.
