Hubert Wesley Kraft, age 96, of Greenville, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, March 10, 2021, surrounded by his family at Green Acres of Cedar Springs. He was born June 24, 1924 in Greenville, the son of Wesley and Dagmar (Hansen) Kraft. On October 1, 1949, he married Ruth M. Hansen, who survives him. Hubert was an award-winning dairy farmer and experimented in growing crops such as varietal (yellow eye and cranberry) beans. Leaving farming, he embarked on a second career as a field supervisor and warehouse manager with Ore-Ida Foods, retiring after 22 years. But not one to remain idle, he returned to his farming roots to tend his land and grow fruit trees and vegetables with sweet corn being the family’s favorite, He also raised Christmas trees to sell to neighbors and friends. Hubert and Ruth enjoyed traveling, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in Australia and New Zealand. Hubert had a good sense of humor and quick wit, always ready with a humorous remark. Hubert was a 1943 graduate of Greenville High School. He was a past member of the Eureka Township Board and was active in 4-H. In addition to Ruth, his wife of 71 years, Hubert is survived by his five daughters, Diane (William) Moore of Lansing, Debra (Randy) Ramsey of Vernon Hills IL, Carla (James) Pocan of Holt, Lori (David) O’Brien of Greenville, and June (Kevin) Newell of Kettering, OH; grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Pocan of Grand Ledge, Scott (Brooke) Pocan of Charlotte, Brian (Sarah) Moore of Lansing, Rachael Ramsey of Chicago, Benjamin Newell of Cleveland, OH, Caitlin Ramsey of The Hague, Netherlands, and Danielle Newell of Beavercreek, OH; great-granddaughters, Landyn, Scarlett and Juliet Pocan and Indila and Ariana Moore; brother Bob Kraft of Greenville; sister, Elizabeth (Dick) Schenden of Boyne City. Hubert was preceded in death by his brother Richard and sisters-in-law Joan Kraft and Martha Kraft. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Green Acres of Cedar Springs and Interim Health Care Hospice for his care. Members of the family will meet with friends from 10 AM to 11 AM Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville. Masks will be required. Due to the COVID-19 limit of 25 people, Family Memorial Services will be held at 11 AM. Interment will be in East Montcalm Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Hubert’s name may be made to Interim Hospice, 1971 E Beltline NE Ste 219, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. Contributions can be dropped off at the funeral home where envelopes are available.
