Erik Anders Vikstrom passed away unexpectedly on July 9, 2019. He was born September 30, 1957, in Wyandotte, MI, the son of Arvilla and Fritz Vikstrom. He graduated from Andover High School in Bloomfield Hills, MI. He then attended Oakland County and Wayne County Community Colleges as well as Pontiac Business Institute. He earned two Journeyman Cards in Pipefitting and Machine Repair and plied his trades at numerous manufacturing plants including General Motors. At the time of his passing he was a valued employee at JR Automation working on teams to build machines for other industries. Erik enjoyed an active and hard-working lifestyle. An avid fan of the Red Wings, he had season tickets and had the opportunity to go skating at the Joe Louis Arena. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed swimming, sailing, cross-country skiing, motorcycles, working in the yard or on household projects such as rebuilding a two-level deck and building a shed complete with a porch. No job was ever two large or small for Erik. He removed a quarter of the backyard lawn so Candace could plant a flower garden that her mother could enjoy from the deck and yet he would work meticulously to restring wind chimes damaged in a storm. Besides his parents and grandparents, Erik is predeceased by his son Nils Anders Vikstrom and former wife Cindy Walsh. Survivors include longtime companion Candace Hespen of Spring Lake, MI, his son Erik John Vikstrom of Richmond, MI, sisters Kerstin Vikstrom of Mesa, AZ, and Kristina (Bruce) Breitmeyer of Long Lake, NY, brother Lars Vikstrom of Detroit, MI, nieces Mellissa Smallwood and Andrea (Tim) Johnson, nephews Paul Smallwood and Kiel Smallwood, and all their families. Erik will be remembered and missed by all. Services will be held on Wednesday July 17, 2019, at 11 AM at South Sidney Church, West Muskrat Road, Greenville, MI with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Because of his love of animals, donations in Erik’s memory can be made to Harbor Humane Society at 14345 Bagley St, West Olive, MI 49460.
