Dale C. Petersen age 81, of Greenville, passed away with the presence of his family at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids on Sunday, August 10, 2014. He was born January 3, 1933 at Fife Lake, the son of Christian & Vernice (Snyder) Petersen. Dale had worked for and retired from Frigidaire after 32 years. Dale also served in the US Army for 6-1/2 years and had been stationed in occupied Germany during the Korean Conflict; he was a Life Member of the Sheridan VFW Post. Dale's hobbies included camping, biking, taking walks, tinkering with electronics and he always enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Jean who he married on July 14, 1962, having just celebrated their 52 years of marriage; children Doreen & (Brad) Reynolds of Gowen, Colleen Petersen of Cedar Springs, Neal Petersen of Sheridan and Paul & (Sarah) Petersen of Coopersville; grandchildren James & (Jessica) Kenney of Coral, Christian Petersen currently stationed at Moody AFB, Katie Hoople of San Antonio, Texas, Kristina Hoople of Orleans, Jessica & (Dave) Duca of Chicago, Kirsten Wesche of Cedar Springs and Emily Petersen of Coopersville; great grandchildren Ally, Kya, Kyden, Aidan, Izabell and one on the way; sisters in law Shirley Wonch of Carson City, Beverly Bristol of Saranac and Marilyn Miller of Ithaca; one aunt Dorothy Snyder of Traverse City and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in law Thomas & Blanche (Talley) Dickerson, brothers in law Terry and Larry Dickerson, Gerald Wonch, Orval Bristol and Kenneth Goodemoot, sister in law Joan (Dickerson) Petrie, niece Brenda Kodat and nephew Harold Kodat. A celebration of his life and Memorial Service with Full Military Honors will be held at the Sheridan VFW Post on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 1 PM., with a luncheon to follow. Officiating will be Pastor Ken Harger. Burial will take place later at Evergreen Cemetery in Sheridan. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorial contributions be made in Dale's name to either the Sheridan VFW Auxiliary or the Alzheimer's Association.
